The Captain Avery Museum is a historic home and museum at Shady Side, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. The house overlooks the West River and Chesapeake Bay. The garden and grounds were part of a Watershed Steward’s Capstone project many years ago and contain many native plants and a wonderful array of watershed improvements such as rain gardens and swales. But they needed rehabilitation and updating. The current Board of Directors applied for and received grant money from Unity Gardens for the purchase of new native plants. Wild Ones Chesapeake Bay connected the Museum with Bona Terra and purchased plants well within the grant limits. This is an ongoing project with the gardens being reworked by volunteers. They are also planning a virtual tour for visitors which will highlight the native plants with links to find out more about the plants. Stay tuned – we hope to be able to have an in-person tour at some point as well.
