"Creating and Managing Landscapes for Native Bees" with Heather Holm

Join Wild Ones Honorary Director Heather Holm as she explores the nesting habitats, life cycles, pollen collection, brood rearing, and general characteristics of some of the most common native bees in eastern North America, while highlighting the pollination of native plants and the mutualism between native plants and native bees.
When creating and managing thriving habitats for native bees, many factors such as seasonal phenology, nesting strategies, and flower preferences must be considered—and with approximately 3,600 species in North America (north of Mexico), there are many unique aspects to keep in mind when managing successful landscapes for bees.

Bring your native plants and seeds to trade with other gardeners at this inaugural native plant swap at the “Front Yard” native gardens. Fall is the best time for planting, so this event is a great way to add new plants to your native gardens and to obtain seeds for winter sowing native plants.

It includes administrative and planning time for the new founders to steward the growth of the Wild Ones Chesapeake Bay Seedling Chapter. Tasks include recruiting new members, appointing board members, reviewing/accepting bylaws, and establishing a calendar of events as requirements to charter. Other tasks include administrative tasks of setting up a Google account for GMail, Google Drive, etc., setting up and administering the chapter's website, Facebook page, Facebook group, and Instagram. Volunteer hours also include time spent in various meetings and trainings leading up to this meeting.
